Jaguar Land Rover recently announced that every vehicle it sells would soon have some form of driveline electrification
The Range Rover Sport was the first model out of the blocks, now comes confirmation that the full-size Range Rover would also soon be offered as a plug-in hybrid too.
Set to land next year for MY19, the Range Rover offering will combine a 2.0 litre petrol engine with an electric motor – combined output has been confirmed at 297kW/640Nm.
The Range Rover PHEV, to be known as the P400e, will have an electric drive range of up to 51 kilometres and can be charged overnight with just a domestic power supply.
With permanent four-wheel drive (as you would expect), Land Rover is promising a respectable 6.4 second sprint to 100km/h and a top speed of 220km/h.
Designed and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover in the UK, the PHEV announcement comes with confirmation of a 2018 update for the flagship Land Rover offering.
Some of the tweaks coming for the new year include improved seats with extended adjustability, additional cabin power outlets, and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.
Gerry McGovern is the Chief Design Officer at Land Rover, he says the update is all about making the Range Rover that little bit better.
“Our customers are very clear about what they want from any new Range Rover. ‘Don’t change it, just make it better,’ they tell us, so everything we’ve done has been about enhancing our flagship SUV,”

The updated MY18 Range Rover will start landing in dealerships towards the end of the year.
